G7 foreign ministers reject drive for sanctions on Russia and Syria following suspected chemical attack.
The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, confirmed that the group of seven nations had not agreed to place sanctions on Russia.
Despite the decision not to pursue multilateral action against Putin, U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson said he hopes the Russia government concludes it has aligned itself with an unreliable partner. Furthermore, he claimed that ‘Russia’s alliances with Assad, Iran and Hezbollah do not serve Russia’s interest, should re-align with U.S. and others’.
